Hey all,
We have a couple of things to tell you about in this post. First, as part of our continuing “Wine and Art” series of exhibits, we’ll be displaying a new and intriguing collection of drawings during the month of August. Second, on August 8 Dysfunctional Housewives will be sponsoring a new Vendor Day at our Links Bridge site. Here are the details:

Obsessed: Pen and Ink Drawings by Jim Haller
From August 1-30, we’ll be hosting an exhibit of pen-and-ink drawings by Jim Haller. Haller is a graduate of Edinboro University of PA and is now an art educator. The exhibit features beautiful, bigger than life renditions of old medicine
bottles. In college, Haller was diagnosed with a degenerative health condition that led to a long series of hospital experiences and an obsession with old medications and remedies.
In 2016, he started collecting vintage and antique medicine bottles and pill tins, of which he now has close to 400. In 2021, he began using his collection as the subject of his work, lighting, photographing, and then meticulously drawing each bottle. He works in pen and ink, using a stippling technique that involves dabbing dots of ink onto a surface, creating texture and depth, layering colors for gradients, and building up patterns for a textured finish. Haller describes this very painstaking procedure as meditative and therapeutic. We think the result is beautiful to behold, and hope you will come by to take a look at these drawings.
We don’t want to leave the false impression that Haller only draws medicine bottles! You can see more of his work here. The Haller exhibit is available to view at the Links Bridge Vineyards Tasting Room, 8830 Old Links Bridge Rd, Thurmont MD 21788. We’re open Saturdays and Sundays from 11 am to 6 pm and open other days by appointment (call 301-466-2413).
Vine & Vendor Day: “Once Upon a Vineyard”
On Saturday August 8, come on by to enjoy a little wine while also enjoying the arts, crafts, music, food, and adoptable pets brought together for the third time this year by Dysfunctional Housewives. The poster below says it all, and we think you’ll like the experience!
