This Weekend at Links Bridge Vineyards (June 17 & 18)

Hello all,

This weekend we’ll be featuring photos by Kim Keller–you won’t want to miss them!  Also, the old bank barn at our Chestnut Hill vineyard site will be a stop on the 16th Annual Barnstormers Tour and Plein Air Paint Out.  Here’s some more detailed information:

This is the last weekend of our exhibit of photos by Kim Keller.  Kim’s photos have been included in national and international exhibits. Her pictures capture familiar moments and provide glimpses into our shared humanity.

The exhibit at Links Bridge Vineyards includes works from her “Parade Project”, previously shown at the Abington Art Center near Philadelphia. In this show, she explored the ways that parades and public holiday celebrations continued to attract performers and audiences throughout the pandemic.  These images illustrate, by way of the faces of the viewers and the performers, that rather than dropping off in popularity, parades continued to bridge generations during that challenging time.  The pictures are full of color, charm, and human interest.

The exhibit also includes a group of wildlife photos that brings you up close and personal with stunning and sometimes comical birds. All will capture both your eye and mind.

For more information about Kim and her work, take a look at her website.

Barnstormers Tour:  The Barns of Utica (June 17)

Saturday June 17 is the date of the 16th Annual Barnstormers Tour and Plain Air Paint Out.  This event, organized and sponsored by the Frederick County Landmarks Foundation, takes you on a self-guided tour of nine old barns in the Utica area of Frederick County.  At each barn, artists will be at work painting the local landscape, and docents will be there to tell you about the building and its history.  In the afternoon from 3:30-5:00, the morning’s paintings will be on sale at Brookfield Farm (just up the street from Links Bridge Vineyards), together with delicious barbecue, hand-dipped ice cream, and foot-stomping music by the Gravy Soppers.

Painting by James Bricker

This is not strictly speaking a Links Bridge Vineyards event, but we mention it because the old bank barn at our Chestnut Hill vineyard site is a stop on the tour, and because the event is one of many throughout the year that the Landmarks Foundation organizes to raise funds for preserving historic county landmarks and educating the public about county history.

Hope to see you here!

Watercolors by Chris Carr

From May 27-June 4, Links Bridge Vineyards is honored to present a memorial exhibit celebrating the watercolors of Chris Carr (1969—2018).

A Frederick, Maryland native, Chris learned much of his craft while a student at Gov.
Thomas Johnson High School, training with renowned watercolor painter Barry Richardson.

After years of working as a graphic designer for newspapers, including The Frederick News-Post and The Washington Post, Chris began focusing more on his painting skills, developing a talent for creating photo-like watercolor images through meticulous attention to detail.  Much of his work depicts historic buildings and structures, town scenes, churches, old cars, trucks, and tractors, evoking memories of days gone by.

Chris Carr with “Winter Church”

Carr died in a tragic 2018 accident, but his art legacy lives on through continued shows and festivals, gallery showings and sales and, importantly, through The Chris Carr Fine Arts and Graphic Design Scholarship established through Frederick Community College Foundation.  All proceeds from sales of his paintings at this exhibit go directly to this wonderful scholarship to help deserving art students hone their craft.

Come take a look!

Paintings by Pauline Rakis

Paintings by Pauline Rakis

From May 5-21, Links Bridge Vineyards will host “Nature’s Grace,” an exhibit of original paintings by Pauline Rakis.

“Nature’s Grace” celebrates the transition from Winter to Spring.  Any change of seasons is a  magical time, but this one is exceptional because the visual impact of the change is so compelling.  It begins at a slow and steady pace, then explodes as bursts of color, new textures, light, and abundance replace the drab winter.  That is what this exhibit is all about!

The artist in Rakis lay dormant for many years while she raised a family, then took on a career in banking. Before leaving her position as vice president at PNC, she had survived eight mergers and acquisitions! In preparation for retirement, she awoke her sleeping talents by taking art classes and workshops. She immersed herself in weekend sketching classes, acrylic painting workshops, and finally programs and classes in France, Greece, and Canada. Rakis is now a full-time artist, currently focusing on landscape and still life.

“Creating art has taught me to challenge myself to go beyond what is comfortable and give
myself the freedom of discovery”-Pauline Rakis
